Is Masturbation a Sin?

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell. – Mathew 5:27-30

The Bible does not state that masturbation itself is a sin, however the act of it does encourage lustful intent that is adultery and sin (Matthew 5:28).

There is a clear connection between lust , masturbation, and porn which is something that is not pleasing to God. Masturbation is always the result of lustful thoughts, pornography or inappropriate sexual stimulation.

There are many people including Christians struggle with guilt concerning masturbation today.

Your Body is Redeemed To Belong to God

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Our bodies have been redeemed by Christ and belongs to God, so therefore what you do to your body, you should honor God with it and not sin against God.

The Battle To Victory Over Masturbation is Self Control

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” – Galatians 5:22-23

Being about to control yourself from the temptation to masturbation is something every Christians must work towards daily if they are struggling with it.

The easy way to overcome the temptation is to first acknowledge that you in need have an issue and you might have an addiction to it as well.

Pray and seek God for help and strength to overcome those temptations. Have a spiritual partner who you can trust to pray with you and help you be accountable to the promises of being able to control your body.
