In case you are wondering if this term Christian “little gods” is even correct, the straight-up answer is no and it’s wrong. However, this term originated from the Word of Faith pastors and teachers.
The basic idea behind this controversial idea is that humans are actually divine, created “in the image of God” (Gen 1:27), having dominion over the earth, and was once the same “spiritual class” as God himself. Many theologians disagree with this viewpoint and it is considered heretical or cultic at worst!
Unfortunately for me, it roots of this idea came from Pentecostalism and were taught by taught in error by some television evangelists and it is made more common in charismatic churches too. The Word of Faith includes other terms such as “name-it-claim-it”, “prosperity theology” and “health and wealth gospel.”
The basics of this claim and idea started from two bible verses. Psalm 82:6 reads “I said, ‘You are “gods”; you are all sons of the Most High'”. Another verse is John 10:34,” Is it not written in your law, ‘I have said you are gods’?”
However, both of these verses were taken out of context and clearly do not indicate that humans are divine. Any Christian who claims to be a god or divinity is not biblical at all. If this is accepted, it also makes Jesus less divine as we are of the same equal status as Christ.
So, therefore, no one Christian should even claim to be God and behave like one today. You have to remember that there is only one God and that is Christ Jesus.
As Christians, we must be careful not to overpower God as we serve God and be mindful to surrender all outcomes always to God
