many years ago, when I was an atheist i enjoy mocking God and believe no one but only myself as i believe in a lie that i can set my own paths and desires in life..
based on a belief of doctrines of self believe that more money = good success in life.
than out of curiosity, i got invited to a mandarin church where i did not really understand what the preacher was saying but some how just accepted Jesus out of curiosity without much thought of what it really means..
you see some of you guys , believe good works = good after life..
some believe good person = eternal rewards..
some believe money is all i need to a good life..
for me neither being good or have eternal life was important to me.. i actually found myself focus on the wealth , riches & greed of the good life which was what i really desire.
i set goals in life and i was lucky enough to earn my first 5 figure income at the age of 23.. and went further to see 7 figures at the age of 29.. but later as i got older in life.. where i got it all ..
i asked myself a question is that it?
is there a bigger purpose in life? and that got my attention on a heavenly reward of eternal life. lets read what it says the scriptures.
A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
“Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.
You know the commandments: ‘You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal,
you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.’ ”
“All these I have kept since I was a boy,” he said.
When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing.
Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy. Luke 18:18-23 NIV
in todays context , we say we have to believe Jesus with all out hearts and confess it with out mouths.
how often do you hear anyone telling you about how important it is for it follow the Laws and see yourself as a sinner.
the rich man claimed He had done all the command and thought he was holy but in the eyes of Jesus he lacked the ability to see that He was still a sinner hanging onto the things of this fallen world we live in.
why did Jesus talked about the ten commandments ?
that is because He wanted the rich man to see himself as a sinner. you cannot repent and receive forgiveness if you cannot see yourself as a sinner.
one of the main ideas that i hope this sharing will tell you is that we have to die to our old life and repent and live a new life in Jesus Christ.
as i had shared with you when i first accepted Jesus i was still living in sin.
why? it was because no one told me i was a sinner and i needed to repent from all the wrong doings of the Laws written in the Bible.
you see the reason why we still see Christians today do not live a life of change is because they have misunderstood the gospels and deceived themselves that they can continue in their old habits of sin in life.
if you are a christian today.. think back all the sermons you have listen to was there ever once a message on the importance of repentance and dying to your old lifestyle and living a new life in Jesus Christ?
i think hardly there was.. if there is your pastor is doing the right thing preaching repentance and holy living.
but if today you are thinking.. i am sick of my old life and want to find meaning in life than i would like to invite you to first repent of the sins.
to do that it just takes 5 mins.. find a quiet place and confess your sins to Jesus and say sorry and He will forgive you.
